Singing while playing dobro

3:46 minutes (1.57 MB)

I"m not claiming this is a great track, but people do pay to hear me do this so I thought I might share. Playing dobro while singing is an incredible challenge. It's even more difficult if you're the 'driving' instrument for the song. Darn near impossible is more like it. I notice here that there are times when my vocal pitch is not exactly off, but kinda slurry as I'm listening for the dobro pitch as I intonate with the bar. I do have a guitarist here, so that helps tremendoulsly. Comments and constructive criticism is appreciated.

This is my favorite carol. I recorded this a few years ago for a compilation Christmas album. I sing the song and play the guitar and overdubbed the dobro in the background. The extended outro is all dobro instead of reprising the vocal. It's a haunting song and the dobro accentuates the feel, IMHO. I hope you enjoy it. Merry Christmas! :)
