A dobro player's voice - Mike Auldridge

All, yesterday I was listening to the Mike Auldridge Dobro/Blues and Bluegrass CDs that were recorded in 1972 and 1974. It is my understanding that Mike started playing dobro in high school. I don't know the timeline of how long he played before these cds and joining Seldom Scene in 1971.

But what really got me was his sound and tone in what I call his 'voice' from these early cd's to the last cd 'Three Bells'. I know he played better dobro's through the years but to my ears, his 'voice' never altered.

When do you think a dobro player gets or develops what I call his dobro 'Voice'?

SOLD - Beard adjustable spider bridge

THIS ITEM IS SOLD.

I'm selling my spare Beard Adjustable No 14 Spider.  The spider is in like new condition.  I'll throw in the Jerry Douglas Fishman pickup that is mounted in it.  The pickup works great on the top 5 strings but the 6th string signal is about 50% low.  Take it away for $55 shipped in the continental US.  I can do Paypal payment if you want to go that route.  PM me or send an e-mail to johnowen57 at gmail.

Cheers,

John

Some nice guitars at Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto, CA right now

Made it over to Gryphon Stringed Instruments this afternoon for a test run of their latest selection of resonator guitars. They have three that I'd buy right away if I needed one: A Beard Guitars model R, a Scheerhorn/National Rob Ickes model, and a 2000 Tut Taylor Virginian.

I'd be really happy with any of them (especially if I'm paying with YOUR money), but the Beard really spoke to me the best. It's fascinating to be able to sit down and play three great guitars side by side and hear the very subtle differences that differentiate each builder's approach.
