Little Rock Getaway

I was asked to play a set of mostly western swing with some friends at the Anchorage Folk Festival a couple weeks ago and Little Rock Getaway was on the set list. I was familiar with 5 string banjo and fiddle versions, but learned that it was written and recorded in '53 by jazz pianist Joe Sullivan. After faking my way through the set I decided to work it up for real and this is some of what I came up with. Once again my son Dan (Band In A Boy) provided the bass track and a mandolin chop via the internet. I got a little carried away with the "Rubato" introduction, which means flexible time or meter, but hang in there and the down beat finally comes.

I'll Be Home For Christmas

Here's a video Christmas card from my home in Alaska to all my friends on ResoNation. I worked this tune up last year and since then I've upgraded my video and recording gear so I thought I'd redo it and share the music along with a few snapshots from my Alaskan home. Once again the tuning is EBDGBD. I've made a lot of new friends this past year and hope to see some of you in 2010. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The Water is Wide........PIP stereo audio

After the Summit and my visit to RK's studio I ordered a Cascade Fathead II ribbon mic and figured out how to do the mid/side stereo recording technique at home. Amazing ambience! The Pinnacle video editing software I use allows me to replace the camera audio so I shot the video while I recorded in Cubase and substituted the sound track. Just for fun I shot 2 angles, my right hand and a 2nd angle of my bar hand and put it in a picture in picture window. You audiophiles (Erik W....et al) let me know what you think. The Fathead ribbon mic is really warm and bassy, perhaps I should eq some of that out.
